Serene continues to be awe struck and inspired by her visits to India and has a sincere desire that her teaching convey and embody the essence of yoga.
In addition to her continued exploration and broad knowledge base within the Svaroopa® yoga system, Serene is a graduate of the Roane State Somatic Therapy program in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. After relocating to Tennessee from Atlanta, GA in 2005 Serene became interested in Ayurveda, a sister science to yoga and an ancient system of natural health care. Through her work as a yoga instructor at the Ayurveda Center for Natural Healthcare in Oak Ridge she began to see the benefits of therapeutic touch and Ayurveda healing therapies, particularly through massage.
Serene entered into the massage therapy program at Roane State to become a licensed massage therapist in order to be able to offer these extremely valuable ancient Ayurveda treatments to individuals. During her massage therapy studies Serene worked both at the Ayurveda Center for her clinicals and at the Blount Memorial Cancer Center. Both of these opportunities have enhanced Serene’s ability to work with individuals suffering chronic pain and even terminal illness.
The Ayurveda Center for Natural Healthcare also trained Serene in several Ayuvedic treatments; the Abhyanga, Shirodara, and Svedena techniques. Her training at Roane State also qualifies Serene in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage, Serene training prepared her to incorporate Neuromuscular Massage and Myofascial techniques into her massage work.
